How Steve describes Tannis: She's one of my favourite singers, and in that respect, I'm not unique. She was awarded last year's Golden Quill for songwriting at the 2008 Porcupine Awards. I've followed her career for the past 20 years, during her time with The Bird Sisters, performing with John Charlton, doing beautiful backup vocals on so many peoples' albums, and the release of her two stellar CDs: Oak Lake and Lucky Blue. At this early date, all I can say is that it is entirely possible for her to bring in a mighty fine arsenal of people to back her up.
Suprise guests turned out to be: Lewis Melville , Jah Youssouf and Abdoubaye Kone who will all be touring this summer with The Woodchoppers Association.

The River Run's program read "Tannis has a special connection with River Run Centre that goes back before the theatre opened its doors. During the later stages of construction, when River Run's Main Stage was being outfitted with a sound system, we asked Tannis to come down and help us with our sound testing. She sang into each of our different microphones (lapel type, wireless and other styles), while a crew of "ears" walked around into every seat and level of the hall to assess the sound quality. You could say she was our first performer. Our technicians certainly had a glorious private concert that day."

Home Routes Concert Series
Tannis is thrilled to be touring back in the area where she was born and raised. Many of the towns and cities on route are dear to her, including her home town of Oak Lake, Brandon where her mom and numerous relatives now live, Onanole which is a wee town near Clear Lake where she worked as a teenage, Neepawa where her dad worked in the 1930's and the home of Margaret Lawrence, and of course Winnipeg where she lived for 4 sweet years before moving to Guelph.
Tannis will be joined by fab musician Lewis Melville.
"Home Routes is about world-class musicians, known and unknown alike, performing complete concerts in the comfortable intimacy of private homes and other non-traditional spaces. They're fun to attend, fun to present, and fun to play. Just imagine your living room as a concert hall with 25-40 of your closest friends and their closest friends gathered for an evening of great music. Imagine great artists delivering the same show in your living room that they would present on the Main Stage of a folk festival or a concert hall."

In those early years, Tannis helped organize the festival with a dedicated group of folks.
In some shape or form, she has performed at possibly every Hillside festival, either in one of many bands she's been part of, as a member of other people's bands or as a workshop co-leader.
